RRC RACE REPORT
In the first evening race of the year, Wednesday night saw RRC converge on the small village of Elsecar to host the SYCAA 5 mile road league.
Taking advantage of the lighter nights, 17 runners in club colours started the race with many other members dotted around the course at martial points doing their best to cheer everyone around.
The overall winner with an amazing time of 26.02 was Kai Sunman from Barnsley AC with the first lady, teammate Ruby Sykes flying in at 29.10.
In overcast but dry conditions, John Hackleton led our club home with great time of 33.01 just pipping Gavin Edley (33.11) and in a dash for the line with debutants Harry McGregor (33.13) and Richard Knight (33.33) showing tremendous potential.
Rebecca Friar was our first lady home in 35.00 with Graeme Dodd, up to his neck in marathon training cruising home in 35.13.
Karl Wooffindin (35.38) was next over the line with team captain Adelle Marsden (35.57) just squeezing in front of Sarah Horner (35.59) and Paul Gent (36.17).
Another runner deep in marathon training, Laura Mann showed her stamina coming home in 36.25 with Claire Chapman following in 38.22.
Jonnie Fenton (42.00) fresh from his recent ultra just led home marathon specialist Nadine Allott (43.00) with another debutant, Richard Vaughan following in 44.15 and sterling efforts from Fiona Earl (46.07) and Stuart Frith (47.10).
An amazing night for our fantastic club with 6 new members donning aqua vests for the first time.
One of the debutants, Richard Knight, although less than 2 weeks away from his date with the Manchester Marathon, produced a tremendous run and said afterwards
“It was a really enjoyable night, I was a bit nervous pre-race as I have been having a few niggles and it was touch and go whether i raced or not but once the gun went I felt fine”
Another debutant showing huge potential, Harry McGregor also spoke afterwards,
“A fantastic night, great race made me so determined to build on this and to progress to compete at the front end of races” then he laughed “the only downside, I’ve ruined my new trainers in the sludge bath at the start !!”
So, another great RRC night was had whether it be organising, marshalling, supporting or running everyone came together and did their bit.
Fingers crossed for clean trainers next time, see you all at Lodge Moor
