Summer finally arrived in South Yorkshire as our athletes made their way to the Milton Arms in Greasbrough for the latest race in the KMR series brilliantly organised by Rotherham Harriers.
One of the most scenic races of the year the 5k route saw runners cross the start line and head downhill towards Greasbrough dam.
The fast start caught many out as, without warning the route took a sharp left to reveal the hill from hell, a brutally long, lung busting 2k climb all the way up to the wonderful Wentworth Woodhouse. But this was no sightseeing tour, oh no not today, with burning quads and screaming calf’s, runners were directed round and told to head back down the hill which had just caused so much pain. As the cows cleared the path and we followed the golden rule ‘DO NOT CROSS THE CATTLE GRID’ our team embraced the change of elevation if only to lower the HR by a few tiny beats.
Alas, the downhill didn’t last long enough as the tight right turn at the bottom led the heart to sink as we saw the climb back up that would take us to a glorious finish line and the obvious liquid rewards.
Back at the Milton Arms the welcoming chip butties were washed down with various tipples of choice as the race debriefs were analysed to within an inch of their lives.
Another great event and fantastic turnout from our club, brilliant camaraderie and togetherness, developing friendships, support, banter and best of all, laughs in abundance.
See you next time!
