RRC RACE REPORT
Saturday 23rd March saw our very own Nadine Allott head off to Skegness for her 3rd marathon of the year to run in the Curly’s organised Great British Seaside Marathon. Taking in the delights of Ingoldmells, chapel-st-Leonard’s and Sutton-on-Sea on the out and back coarse it was a hard run in very windy and cold conditions.
Here are Nadine’s thoughts on the race;
“Getting to the start line was touch and go, I had originally arranged to stay 2 nights in a hotel but had to forfeit that and travel down and back same day (4 hour round trip) so I was definitely ready for bed on Saturday night!!
The run was good, if not very windy, relentless in places! Plan was to go under 4.5hrs but I didn’t make that, lots of sand which was hard to run through and thus resulting in having to stop to empty sand out of my trainers, I even lost an insole on the beach it simply blew away, I ran after it but the wind just took it !!
Near the finish line I even managed to high five Chewbacca (or a man dressed as chewbacca)!!
Afterwards, together with my great friend Louise Taylor from another local running club who also ran the marathon, we enjoyed the obligatory fish and chip tea in a seafront restaurant washed down with a lovely glass of chilled cider”
Also running was regular social runner with us, Jonnie Fenton who tackled the ultra marathon and despite only training up to 16 miles lately managed a fantastic time of just under 7 hours.
This was Nadine’s 14th marathon to date with another 3 planned for this year alone, next stop being the local one in April at Roche Abbey.
With another medal for the collection and a great time of 4hrs39, coming home in 25th place overall, Nadine will continue to be an inspiration to us all.
